As part of the National Park Service's Night Skies Program, Starry Hill is in its fourth year in
providing evening stargazing experiences during summer months for visitors at Mt. Rainier National Park.
Come join us outside the Jackson Visitor Center at Paradise.
Saturn, the Moon, the International Space Station, shooting stars, galaxies and more are all parts of the
show. We set up multiple telescopes for visitors to use but also offer lots of 'naked-eye' stargazing as well.
There are
typically 75 visitors each evening and sometimes up to 300!
The National Park Service (NPS) has identified the Starry Night Sky as a treasure
to be protected and shared with the public and we at Starry Hill want to be a part of its efforts. On its
website, the NPS writes...
Starry night skies and natural darkness are important components of the special places the National Park
Service protects. National parks hold some of the last remaining harbors of darkness and provide an
excellent opportunity for the public to experience this endangered resource. The NPS is dedicated to
protecting and sharing this resource for the enjoyment of current and future generations.
