Choosing a Telescope | | Summary of Recommendations ✭ Purchase from a telescope store instead of a local box store to get better quality.
✭ Get a 3" (80mm) to 6" (150mm) telescope to balance light-gathering ability with physical size.
✭ For the best value, get a reflector.
✭ Get an alt-az or dobsonian mount since it is simple and less expensive.
✭ Skip GOTO since a good one adds a lot of cost and complexity.
✭ Consider a good binocular instead of a telescope.
✭ Get a good smartphone/tablet app to use at the telescope. This way you'll know what to look
for.
✭ Find a good location with low levels of light pollution. It will make all the difference.
