Last Quarter March 9, 2018 ⬅︎
The Last Quarter Moon is the three-quarters point in the moon's 29.5 day lunar cycle.

The moon rises around midnight and sets around noon. The left half of the moon is illuminated.

This is a great time for stargazing since the moon doesn't rise until midnight. In fact, from 3rd Quarter until a few days after the next New Moon, star gazing is at its best!

After Last Quarter, the moon will continue to move back toward the sun and set about an hour later each day. It will continue to decrease in brightness or wane. Since it is now under 50% illuminated, it is no longer gibbous but now is crescent.
